history

The main line was opened between Hamm and Paderborn on October 1, 1850 by the Royal Westphalian Railway Company . The continuation to Warburg took place in 1853. The railway line from Münster to Warstein began operations on October 31, 1883. The Lippstadt – Rheda railway followed a few years later.

On the running in a north-south direction stretch of the Westphalian Provincial Railroad Münster-Warstein was passenger set in two stages 1975th Today it is used as a pure freight route. In 1979, passenger traffic to Rheda was finally stopped. This line has now been closed and most of it has been dismantled.

The north station on the line to Beckum / Neubeckum was completely demolished in 1987 ( reception building , goods shed , loading ramp , track systems); only the signal box, which was built in 1910 and now has no function, and the track itself remained. The headquarters of the Westfälische Landeseisenbahn, with the freight station there and the central workshop, are also located near the former north station .

After the Second World War , the porter and art piper Flöten-Ewald worked at the train station for several decades, making it a well-known original in the city.

Lippstadt train station is located immediately south of the city ​​center and the pedestrian zone . Opposite the train station is the central bus station , where there is a connection to the city and regional bus routes as well as to the express bus route S60 to Warstein.
