The Wiesloch-Walldorf station is a station of Baden-Wuerttemberg cities Wiesloch and Walldorf . It is classified in station category 3 and lies between the two cities that give it its name.

development

19th century

With the construction of the Baden main line from Mannheim via Heidelberg , Karlsruhe , Baden-Baden and Freiburg to Basel , the Karlsruhe – Heidelberg section (see Baden-Kurpfalz-Bahn ) was opened on April 15, 1843, initially on 1600 mm wide gauge. This gave Wiesloch and Walldorf the benefit of a railway connection. A few years later, the line was expanded to double-track.

Since Baden's broad gauge was incompatible with the gauges of its neighboring countries, it was feared that the lucrative transit traffic would be lost. For this reason, the Baden routes were converted to standard gauge (1435 mm) in just four months in just four months , after which the rails of the two Bruchsal stations could be linked.

20th and 21st centuries

Since the train station was around three kilometers from Wiesloch and Walldorf, both places only had limited use of the train. Therefore, in 1901 the private branch line Wiesloch – Meckesheim / Waldangelloch was opened, which connected the city center of Wiesloch with the train station. This connected the Baden-Kurpfalz Railway with the Elsenz Valley Railway Heidelberg – Sinsheim - Heilbronn . The trains on this line left a platform on the station forecourt ; there was a transfer track for the state railway. Passenger traffic on this route ceased in 1980, freight traffic in 1990.

A tram was built in 1902 to connect downtown Walldorf , which also ran from the station forecourt and was discontinued in 1954. Even before 1990, was the reception building of the station demolished.

In 2000, the Wiesloch-Walldorf Railway Station Association was founded for the renovation of the station and the upgrading of the area around the station .

In 2003, as part of the integration of the Rheintalbahn from Mannheim to Karlsruhe into the network of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn, the platforms were upgraded to accommodate the disabled . The S-Bahn was opened on December 14, 2003, and the station has been integrated into its system ever since.
