The Xanten station is a regional station west of the city center of Xanten on the Rheinhausen – Kleve railway line . Since the partial closure in the direction of Kleve in 1990, it has been the final stop on the line that has been in operation since August 15, 1904. It belongs to station category 6.
history
Today's station was opened in 1904 with the Lower Rhine route. Until 1914 it was called the Xanten Staatsbahnhof to distinguish it . From 1921 until the nationalization of the Boxteler Bahn in 1925 it was called the Xanten Reichsbahn . From then on he was called Xanten . Passenger traffic ceased in 1945 could only be resumed from the north in 1947 and from the south in 1948. In 1989 passenger traffic to Kleve was discontinued, and in 1990 goods traffic as well, since then Xanten has been the end of the route.
Originally there was a second older station in Xanten, which is no longer used today, the later station Xanten West . It was put into operation in 1878 and was used by the (initially) privately operated Boxteler Bahn of the Noord-Brabantsch-Duitsche Spoorweg-Maatschappij between Boxtel (Netherlands) and Wesel. The Boxteler Bahn was largely destroyed west of Xanten in 1945, so that no more traffic was possible, the line was officially closed in 1947. The station building from 1902 was demolished in 1978.
Investments
Today the station only has one platform track and two sidings. The railroad track is barrier-free.
The station building from the opening year was destroyed in 1945. In 1955 the current single-storey building was erected, which has been privately owned since 2012. There is a small inn in the building.
There is also a bicycle station in the vicinity where bicycle boxes can be rented.
There is also a taxi office and a ticket machine here.
The former freight transport facilities to the north have now been dismantled.
traffic
It runs the regional train The Lower Rhine (RB 31) (Xanten- Moers - Duisburg ), which since 2009 by the North Western Railway (NWB) with diesel railcars of type LINT 41 is operated in single and double traction.
