The Dresden-Pieschen – Dresden-Neustadt railway is a single-track, electrified main line in Saxony mainly used for freight traffic . It runs within Dresden from Pieschen to Dresden-Neustadt and is part of the original route of the Leipzig-Dresden Railway .

history

Dresden-Pieschen junction (2013)

Today Verbindungsbahn Dresden-Pieschen Dresden-Neustadt was opened on 19 July 1838 as part of the Leipzig-Dresden railway by the Leipzig-Dresden Railway Company .

In connection with the construction of the Dresden-Neustadt train station in 1902, the line from Dresden-Pieschen was given a new route, and the old line was henceforth only used for freight traffic. The old Leipzig train station was now referred to as the Dresden-Neustadt freight station section .

Electrical operation was opened on June 1, 1968.

During the track renovation in Dresden-Neustadt station from 2007, the route was temporarily used by passenger trains. For this purpose, a provisional platform was built opposite the Dresden-Neustadt train station, on which the regional express trains on the Leipzig – Dresden route stopped. During this time, the connecting curve at Dresden-Neustadt station in the direction of Görlitz was broken off.

In February 2013, the Federal Railway Authority put the annual traffic volume on the line between Bft Dresden-Neustadt Pbf and Bft Dresden-Neustadt Gbf at 1022 trains and between Bft Dresden-Neustadt Gbf and the Dresden-Pieschen branch at 949 trains.
