The word baksheesh comes from Persian, where there isبخشش, DMG Baḫšiš is written / spoken, and means something like gift or gift .
Tourists generally give a baksheesh in Islamic countries in the sense of tipping for services or favors.
The term baksheesh has been adopted in India . Both here and in Arab countries, it is customary to give baksheesh to speed up administrative procedures or to receive a special favor.
In German-speaking countries, the Balkans and other countries of the former Ottoman Empire , baksheesh is a colloquial term for bribes .
