The City of Vienna Ball was during the monarchy 's third most important ball in Vienna, according to the Court Ball and Ball at Court .

The Vienna City Ball first took place on February 1, 1890 in the Vienna City Hall and was intended as a counterpart to the Court Ball . For this event Johann Strauss composed his Rathaus-Ball-Tänze ( op. 438) and Carl Michael Ziehrer composed the waltz Wiener Bürger (op. 419).

In addition to the court balls, the city of Vienna's ball was very highly regarded. Donations from women were popular, and they often referred to historical events such as the opening of the Second Vienna Spring Water Pipeline , the Battle of Aspern , the Schiller Festival or imperial anniversaries. After the end of the monarchy in 1918, the ball slowly faded, but was brought back to life in the corporate state on February 6, 1936.

The Concordia Ball is the most important ball that takes place in Vienna's City Hall today , but other balls are also held there, such as the Figaroball on January 14, 1991 or the Life Ball .
