Bandipore (or Bandipora ; Hindi बांडीपूर ) is a city ( Municipal Committee ) in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 37,081.
The city of Bandipore is located in the Kashmir Valley 40 km north-northwest of Srinagar at the foot of the Himalayas . The city lies at an altitude of 1607 m . The Madumati River flows west of Bandipore and flows into the Wularsee south of Bandipore . A road to Sopore runs along the western shore of the lake from Bandipore , while a road to the east leads via Sumbal to Srinagar.
