The Banque et Caisse d'Epargne de l'Etat, Luxembourg ( French , abbreviated BCEE , dt. Staatsbank und Staatssparkasse Luxemburg , lux. Spuerkeess ) is the state bank and savings bank in Luxemburg .

The bank was established by law of February 21, 1856 by Wilhelm III. of Orange-Nassau, King of the Netherlands , Grand Duke of Luxembourg , or Henry, Prince of the Netherlands, governor in the Grand Duchy, initially founded as a Sparcasse (caisse d'épargne) .

In 2011, 1,788 employees and total assets of 40 billion euros generated a net profit of 187 million euros. BCEE is the third largest bank in Luxembourg and the largest bank with domestic capital.

In the Grand Duchy, BCEE operates a network of 72 branches. The bank's headquarters are in the state capital.

In 1995, the bank opened a 650 square meter museum in the counter hall of its former headquarters.

The international rating agencies Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s have given BCEE an AA + / A-1 + and Aa1 / P-1 rating , which are the best ratings in the Luxembourg financial center, given its financial situation and its owner, the Luxembourg state . In April 2012, BCEE took 7th place in the Global Finance Ranking of the 50 safest banks worldwide.
