Barbara Beuys

Barbara Beuys (born October 9, 1943 in Wernigerode ) is a German historian and writer .

life and work

After graduating from high school in Düsseldorf, Barbara Beuys studied history, philosophy and sociology in Cologne from 1963 to 1968 and received her doctorate in history. phil. She started her journalistic career at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger . In 1971 Barbara Beuys moved to Hamburg. There she worked for twelve years as an editor at Stern and then became an editor at Merian and Die Zeit . In 1979 her first book was published, a biography about the Great Elector . The second book Family Life in Germany followed a year later . It is the family story for the past 2000 years.

After a few more books, including about the resistance in the Third Reich and the history of the Jews in Europe, various biographies have been published since 1999: about Hildegard von Bingen or the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff as well as a book about the Chinese poet Li Qingzhao . In 2010 she published "the most comprehensive biography to date" by Sophie Scholl .

Barbara Beuys has been living in Cologne again since 2001 as a freelance writer of non-fiction books. In addition to history, her areas of interest include music, painting, literature and religion. She is the great niece of the sculptor Joseph Beuys .
