Barbara Cramer-Nauhaus

Barbara Cramer-Nauhaus (born September 22, 1927 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † March 21, 2001 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German English scholar and translator .

Life

Barbara Cramer-Nauhaus studied English and German in Halle and Heidelberg and has worked as a freelance translator since 1951. She has translated fiction and essays by various English and American authors from the 18th to 20th centuries, and translated poetry by Edgar Allan Poe , Ambrose Bierce and Lord Byron . Her translations have mainly appeared in the Dieterich'schen Verlagbuchhandlung Leipzig and Insel-Verlag .

Barbara Cramer-Nauhaus was married to the book designer and publicist Wilhelm Nauhaus . Barbara and Wilhelm Nauhaus are the parents of the church musician and author Kilian Nauhaus .
