Barbara Grobien (born July 24, 1938 in Bremen ) is a German patron , chairwoman of the Bremen Philharmonic Society , golf athlete and honorary citizen of Bremen .

biography

Barbara Grobien is the second child of Albrecht and Margret Wandel. The father was a partner in an insurance agency. She spent her school days in Bremen, which she completed in 1958 with the Abitur at the school at the Barkhof in Bremen. She began studying philology in English, history and French. She has been married to the businessman Michael Grobien (later Lampe & Schwartze , 2003 chairman of the German Society for Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS) ) since 1959 . Both moved to Montevideo in Uruguay and returned to Bremen in 1965.

As an athlete, Grobien was honored by the Senate in 1977 as a member of the Bremen team, which won the German women's cup in golf. From 1988 she was a member of the German senior team for ten years at the European Marisa Sgaravatti Trophy . In 1991 she became the German senior golf runner-up.

Grobien was committed to promoting art and culture in Bremen. In 1985 she founded the Friends of Young Musicians eV Bremen . In Germany there are now eight circles that have set themselves the task of promoting young, highly talented musicians, giving them the opportunity to present programs, gain experience on the podium and, if possible, find an agency. Since 1987 she was a member of the advisory board of the Philharmonic Society Bremen , then she was elected to the board and in 2001 she was elected chairman of the Philharmonic Society. She played a key role in the privatization of the Bremen Philharmonic State Orchestra in 2002 and its transformation into the Bremer Philharmoniker GmbH.

The Michael and Barbara Grobien Foundation has been supporting the sea rescuers and the Philharmonic Society since 2002.

In 2004 she was one of the personalities who signed the “Bremen Declaration” on the application for the European Capital of Culture and thus assured their support. Since 2004 she has been a member of the board of trustees of the association Freunde des Sendesaales e. V. , who is committed to the maintenance and continued operation of the Bremen broadcasting hall .

The Grobien couple have two sons.

Honors

On September 6, 2005, the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen decided , together with the former mayor of Bremen Annemarie Mevissen , to grant Bremen honorary citizenship - as the highest honor in the Hanseatic city. The Senate recognized “the significant and lasting achievements of these two Hanseatic women around Bremen as well as their exemplary commitment”. The award took place during a ceremony on October 5, 2005 in Bremen City Hall by Mayor Henning Scherf .

In October 2010, she was from the University of Bremen voted Bremen in the Board of Trustees of the University.
