Barbara Rittner (born April 25, 1973 in Krefeld ) is a former German tennis player . From 2005 to 2017 she was the captain of the Fed Cup team and since 2009 she has been the first national coach of the German Tennis Association .

Career

In the 15 years of her career from 1989 to 2004 she was one of the best German players. She competed 29 times for the German Fed Cup team, including the 1992 Federation Cup victory with Steffi Graf and Anke Huber . On February 1, 1993 she reached position 24, her best placement in the WTA world rankings.

Rittner won two WTA tournaments in singles : in 1992 the preparatory tournament for the US Open in Schenectady and in 2001 the clay court tournament in Antwerp . She was another three times in the final of a WTA tournament and also won three double titles. In her career she reached the second round of a Grand Slam tournament twice : in 1996 at the French Open , when she a. a. Local hero Mary Pierce could beat, and 2001 at the Australian Open .

Her successes also include a Wimbledon title in junior singles and junior doubles at the Australian Open in 1991. Barbara Rittner was regularly active for the Bundesliga club TC Benrath in Düsseldorf .

Rittner played her last individual on the tour in 2004 in the second qualifying round of the US Open, where she was 176th in the world rankings against Séverine Brémond in two sets. In 2005 she took part in two doubles tournaments before finally ending her career.

Barbara Rittner lives in Cologne.
