Barbara Schmitz

Barbara Schmitz (* 1975 ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian. She is a university professor for Old Testament biblical studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . Her main research interests are Jewish literature from the Hellenistic-Roman period, Septuagint studies , deuterocanonical literature as well as narratology and the Old Testament .

Life

Schmitz studied Catholic theology in Passau , Jerusalem and Münster and from 2005 to 2009 was senior lecturer in the University Service for Old Testament at the University of Duisburg-Essen. After her doctorate at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Münster (2003) and her habilitation at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Regensburg (2007), she took over the Chair of Exegesis and Theology of the Old Testament at the Faculty of Human Sciences and Theology of the Technical University in 2009 Dortmund and was appointed university professor there in 2010. Since July 2011 Schmitz has been a university professor for the Old Testament and biblical-oriental languages at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg.

Schmitz is committed to the International Society for the Study of Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature (ISDCL). She is a member of the discussion group »Jews and Christians« at the Central Committee of German Catholics (zdk) and the German Ecumenical Study Committee (DÖSTA) of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany (ACK). She is also a supervisor, certified by the German Society for Supervision (DGSV) and the Systemic Society (SG).
