Barbara Unmüßig (* 1956 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German political scientist and has been a director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation since 2002 .

biography

Inquisitively studied political science at the Free University of Berlin . In 1983 she became editor of the north-south political magazine blätter of the iz3w and a research assistant for Aktion Third World eV in Freiburg.

From 1985 she was a research assistant for the member of parliament Uschi Eid and until 1990 of the member of parliament Ludger Volmer of the Greens in the Bundestag with a focus on North-South politics and international environmental policy .

In 1990 she founded the Organization for World Economy, Ecology and Development eV (WEED) and was its managing director from 1993 - until she left in 2002 -. To this day she is co-editor of the information letter World Economy & Development.

In 1991 Unmüßig became head of a project unit of the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), the German Nature Conservation Ring (DNR) and the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) in preparation for the summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. She also took part in the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.

In 2000 she was co-founder of the German Institute for Human Rights (DIMR) and was a member of the Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2016, and has been Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees since 2009.

Since 2009 she has been a member of the jury for the Helene Weber Prize for young female local politicians.

Since 2013 Barbara Unmüßig has been a member of the board of trustees of forum Sustainable Economy, a magazine that campaigns for the sustainable design of the future.

Barbara Unmüßig has been a member of the advisory board of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute since 2016.

She has been a member of the general assembly since 1996 and from 1996 to 2001 chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin. She has been a board member of the Heinrich Böll Foundation since 2002, initially together with Ralf Fücks and since July 2017 together with Dr. Ellen Ueberschär .

Barbara Unmüßig has been a board member of the Heinrich Böll Foundation since 2002.

She is responsible for the international work of the foundation in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East & North Africa as well as the Gunda Werner Institute for Feminism and Gender Democracy. She is strategically responsible for the thematic priorities of the foundation just globalization, human and women's rights, international climate, resource and agricultural policy, and democracy policy.

She is the chairwoman of the jury of the Anne Klein Women's Prize, which the Heinrich Böll Foundation has been awarding annually since 2012 to women who, through outstanding commitment, courage and moral courage, have shown themselves to be a reality for gender democracy, the rights and self-determination of lesbians, gays, Distinguishing trans and intersex people.

Publications

Barbara Unmüßig participates actively and regularly in the debate on the strategy and program of Alliance 90 / The Greens on issues of global justice, environmental and climate policy, gender policy and development policy.

She regularly publishes articles in books, speeches and journals on issues of international climate and environmental policy, global governance, global justice, human rights, gender and democracy politics. Most recently she published the book "Critique of the Green Economy" together with Lili Fuhr and Thomas Fatheuer.
