The Bashkir Sapovednik ( Russian Башкирский заповедник ) is a nature reserve in the central area of the Southern Urals . In the nature reserve there are forested mountain slopes between the western slopes of the Urals and the Kaga River and a transition between the forest in the mountains and a steppe forest . The area is located in Bursjansky district of Bashkortostan .

topography

The nature reserve is delimited in the north by the Kaga and in the east by the southern foothills of the Urals. The area is bounded by the Uzyan River in the south and the Kraków Mountains in the west. The tops of many mountain ridges are covered with forest. Forests are mainly found on the mountain slopes in the east, in the flatter areas there are mainly steppes and meadows .

Climate and ecoregion

The nature reserve is located at the southern end of the WWF ecoregion "Mountain taiga and tundra of the Urals". This zone is the meeting point of the Asian and European vegetation zones.

The climate of the region is described in the effective climate classification with Dfc, i.e. boreal coniferous forest climate . Large temperature ranges are characteristic of this climate, both during the year and during the day. The summers are cool, the winters cold. Precipitation remains relatively the same throughout the year.

Flora and fauna

A lake in the nature reserve

Due to its position at the meeting point of several ecoregions, the biodiversity in the nature reserve is very high. There are both Siberian, European, Central Asian and Arctic vegetation types. Boreal forests with pine and larch cover about 80% of the area, some parts are also covered with birch . There are some alder and willow forests along the river . There are 812 vascular plants , 95 types of algae , 42 types of mushrooms , 322 lichens and 124 mosses in the nature reserve . In the nature reserves, animals typical of the forests of the South Urals can be found. These include brown bears , squirrels , lynxes and grouse . 275 vertebrate species , 17 fish species , three amphibians , 6 reptiles , 196 bird species and 53 different mammals were counted in the park . Trout can live in the breezy and cold river currents .

administration

There is a natural history museum in the nature reserve, but visits to the area itself require a permit from the administration. A number of tour routes can be followed with a guide.
