Baskery is a Swedish alternative country band that describes their style as Country Punk , Mud Country or Killbilly . Their first LP Fall Among Thieves was released in 2008 and reached the Swedish Top 60 in May of that year.
The group has existed since 2006 and consists of three sisters who accompany their polyphonic vocal harmonies on acoustic instruments, namely Greta (* February 7, 1978), Stella (* March 20, 1980) and Sunniva Bondesson (* October 5, 1982).
Band history
Baskery was created in 2006 through a personal regrouping of the Slaptones , which also included the women's father, Janåke Bondesson, as a drummer. The Slaptones released two albums ( Simplify 2003 and Amplify 2004) and were on tour with the Brian Setzer Orchestra , among others .
In 2007, Baskery's first EP, One Horse Down , was released on Veranda Independent Records. Her first album, a live studio recording produced by Lasse Mårtén , hit record stores in Sweden in May 2008, in other European countries (including Germany, Austria and Belgium) in autumn that year and in Great Britain in January 2009. Since 2008 the three women have performed at concerts and festivals in North America and Europe.
In July 2009, the Rockpalast of the WDR broadcast Baskerys performance at the Crossroads Festival in Bonn (end of March 2009).
In 2015 Baskery played and sang the song The Road to Mandalay with Robbie Williams on his Let Me Entertain You Tour .
style
Baskery was initially compared to the Dixie Chicks , Roches and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club , but after the initial cover versions, they now prefer their own songs, which, in conjunction with the acoustic instrumentation and the often three-part vocals, give the group an unmistakable sound. Mojo described their performances as "absolutely wonderful ... They play their own style with recognizable enthusiasm, paired with a virtuosity that is not to be underestimated and a lot of temperament that is irresistible".
