Bassetlaw is a district in Nottinghamshire in England . The administrative seat is the city of Worksop . Other important places are Bircotes , Misterton , Ranskill and Retford .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Borough of Worksop , the Borough of Retford , the Retford Rural District and most of the Worksop Urban District .
