Beanie Sigel (born March 6, 1974 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; real name is Dwight E. Grant) is an American rapper .

biography

Beanie Sigel began his career with an appearance on a mixtape by DJ Clue . This was quickly followed by guest appearances on Jay-Z's album Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life and a contract as a solo artist with Roc-A-Fella Records . In 2000 he released his debut The Truth , which featured guest appearances by Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek , Eve and Scarface , as well as productions by Swizz Beatz . It was successful and was awarded the RIAA's gold record . Sigel had a role in the Damon Dash- produced documentary Backstage that year . The second album The Reason followed in the next year, announced by the single Beanie (Mack Bitch) . Although this failed to make it into the top 100 of the US Billboard charts, it was still successful in the R&B / hip-hop area. Regardless, The Reason sold a little worse than its predecessor. His first leading role followed in 2002 with State Property . He starred in the film with rappers like Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek. He named his own clothing brand after the film, which advertised clothing with hidden pockets and holsters.

In 2003 he was arrested several times. First because he allegedly drew a loaded handgun in a police chase and then deliberately shot a man in the stomach. This second incident, tried in court as attempted murder, was initially discontinued but later tried again. He pleaded guilty to the first incident and was sentenced to one year in prison. While in prison, he completed his album, The B. Coming, in 2005. At the end of the year he was released and began to work on another album. At first, however, his label situation was unclear due to the dispute between Jay-Z and Damon Dash , so The Solution was only released in December 2007 - still on Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records.

After separating from both Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Records, Sigel released his fifth album, The Broad Street Bully, on the Siccness label in 2009. A year later, a new album should be released, which should be entitled The Closure . However, this title as well as the production of the album was withdrawn by Sigel. On March 31, 2012, he made a new deal with EMI and announced a collaboration album with Scarface .

Due to high tax debts, which Sigel accumulated between 1999 and 2005, he was sentenced to two years in prison in July 2012. He started his sentence in September 2012.
