Bekker count

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bekker counting describes the citation method used today for the vast majority of Aristotle's traditional works . It goes back to the first critical complete edition, which is essential for modern Aristotle research , which Immanuel Bekker produced between 1831 and 1837.

The respective page, column and line are given in the usual way of citing. For example, "980b21" refers to

  • " 980 " on page 980,
  • " B " on the right of the two columns and
  • " 21 " on line 21.

Most modern Aristotle editions are based on this count and show this pagination in the text.
