Bengendorf is the smallest district of Heringen (Werra) in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse .

Bengendorf is surrounded by forest in East Hesse, southeast of the main town. State road 3306 runs on the western edge of the village .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1397. At that time, Bengendorf was still a desert and was called Penchindorff . Later the place name was written Benchendorf and then Benigedorf . After the Thirty Years War the place was desolate again and was only settled again after 100 years.

On December 31, 1971, Bengendorf was incorporated into the municipality of Heringen (Werra) as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
