Benjamin Cleary

Benjamin Cleary (* in Dublin ) is an Irish film director and screenwriter .

Life

Cleary developed a keen interest in film as a child. He studied screenwriting at the London Film School and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 2011. As a result, Cleary devoted himself to screenwriting and won the BlueCat Short Screenplay Competition in Los Angeles in 2012 . From 2012, Cleary worked on behalf of RTÉ as a scriptwriter for various projects, including a children's series.

Cleary developed the idea for his directorial debut Stutterer , which appeared in 2015, from an online video in which a stuttering man reported, among other things, his difficulties with making phone calls . Cleary partially produced, directed, scripted and edited the short film. Stutterer won the London Critics' Circle Short Film Award in 2015 and the Oscar for Best Short Film in 2016 .
