Benni Bärenstark (original title: Benoît Brisefer ) is the title character of a comic series that the Belgian illustrator Peyo created in 1960. In the first German publication of the comic from 1971, her name was Der kleine Winni .

Characters

Benni Bärenstark (French: Benoît Brisefer ) is a schoolboy of indefinite age who is extraordinarily strong and can jump incredibly high. However, he loses his strength when he gets a cold. The loss of his powers occurs in every album. In his hometown Piepenhausen (French: Vivejoie-La-Grande ; called Freudenberg in the translations of Toonfish-Verlag) and in other places, he experiences various adventures. Only one uncle of his family is introduced; Parents or siblings do not appear in the picture. He is inquisitive, curious, hardworking, polite, extremely good-natured, only once in the second album-long story wrestles with the temptation to use his strength to gain an unauthorized advantage ( Madame Albertine , p. 50f), and only appears in the twelfth album also presented as gourmet ( chocolate & crackers , p. 45, last picture). Because of his strength, he is often portrayed alone in the first story: Younger friends and friends of the same age avoid him. Only in the holiday camp history of the eleventh album ( Susi's secret ) do you see him with friends of the same age. In contrast, he has several adult friends from the start of the series. If he observes something illegal, he reports it to the police, but - running gag in almost all albums - of course no adult believes a little boy.

Mr. Fitzke (French: Jules Dussiflard ; at Toonfish: Julius Piepke) is a taxi driver in Piepenhausen. Benni experiences several of his adventures with him. He already appears in the first album The Red Taxis , in which he has to assert himself against the competition of the many red taxis. Behind the red taxis is a criminal gang who want to rob the whole of Piepenhausen. But Benni and Fitzke can prevent the act. He's a nice adult with whom Benni gets along very well - almost like a father-son relationship. At all appearances, Fitzke is seen to be concerned about Benni's health, as he does not believe in his incredible strength. The third album ( Benni's twelve great deeds ) offers a glimpse into the past as a trumpeter in the Piepenhausen Jazz Band , in which the different life paths of his fellow musicians are presented.

Madame Albertine (French: Mme. Adolphine ) is a very old lady. It appears for the first time in the second album in the series. Benni has a very good relationship with her and has been given sweets several times. The craftsman Bruno Klingbeil (French: Serge Vladlavodka ) makes a robot from the old lady that not only resembles her appearance, but should also have its properties. During a repair, however, he swaps two wires and thus reverses the character of the robot, who is now making headlines as a kind of evil Albertine ( Lady Alberta ), a thief, bank robber and head of a criminal gang. Several times Benni has to distinguish the two women based on their pulse and bring the evil Albertine back to Bruno, who then removes her battery.

Uncle Hubert (. Fr. Oncle Placide ) operates as GORILLA (= " G efahrschutz- O ffizier in R isikoreichen I NTERNATIONAL L EIB-and L likewise A FFAIRS" Toonfish lt; Carlsen. HI.DSAP when, for the Subsidiary Protection of foreign personalities), and lives in the country. Benni experiences his fourth adventure with him when they want to spend the summer vacation together. But at the beginning of the vacation Uncle Hubert has to protect a nagging finance minister who wants to pick up the printing plates of the banknotes from his home country. However, since a gang of gangsters want these clichés at any price, the supposed routine job turns into a turbulent chase, in which Benni can once again prove his strengths. Like most of the adults in this series, Hubert doesn't believe in his nephew's extraordinary powers. He also played a leading role in the albums John-John and In the Footsteps of the White Gorilla .

Development and publication

Peyo was already supported by Willy Maltaite alias Will as a draftsman of the decorations and backgrounds for the first two volumes , but he then passed Benni Bärenstark on to other authors in order to focus more on his successful series The Smurfs . Volumes 3 to 6 (1966-1972) were drawn by Walthéry , volume 7 (1978) by Blesteau . Friends of the Franco-Belgian funny comics had to wait a long time for a sequel: Only since Peyo's death (1992) has the series been made up of Peyo's son Thierry Culliford (* 1955) as a copywriter and Pascal Garray (* December 12, 1965, † January 17 2017) continued as a draftsman in Studio Peyo .

In Germany the comics first appeared from 1971 to 1977 as Der kleine Winni in Fix and Foxi , z. T. in sequels in the weekly magazine, z. Sometimes also in album format in the Fix and Foxi Album series (volumes 14 and 19), or in the subsequent series of Fix and Foxi Fun (volumes 23 and 28).

The Carlsen Verlag published the series under the title Benni Bärenstark between 1980 and 2004 in twelve volumes.

The volumes have been reissued and continued by toonfish Verlag since 2013 .
