Benno Schilde (1849–1911)

Benno Schilde (born April 6, 1849 in Rochlitz ; † October 22, 1911 in Hersfeld ) was the founder of a company that was one of the first in Germany to manufacture equipment for industrial drying .

Life

After completing his apprenticeship as a machine fitter, wandering around and working as a journeyman at the Union machine tool factory , Benno Schilde registered as a mechanical engineer in the Hersfeld trade register as a 25-year-old in 1874.

In 1874 he married Wilhelmine Demme, who worked in his company. The marriage had six children.

After difficult early years, he achieved the rise to factory owner through constant striving. Benno Schilde's personality was shaped by craftsmanship, innovative thinking and ingenuity. In 1885 he called his company with twenty employees "Benno Schilde - machine factory and apparatus construction company, Hersfeld". In 1900 the eldest son Paul Schilde joined the company. In the years 1904 (170 employees) to 1908 (262 employees) the factory and office buildings, which are now listed , were built. With around 200 employees, annual sales approached the two million mark. His economic vision recognized the prospect of specializing in ventilation and heating technology products such as fans and drying systems, which later were among the top products in the industry.
