Location of the municipality Benz in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg | ||
Benz is a municipality in the northeast of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Neuburg office with its seat in the municipality of the same name .
geography
The community of Benz east of the Hanseatic city of Wismar is located in a slightly hilly, wooded area.
Benz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Neuburg in the north, Züsow in the east, Neukloster in the southeast, Zurow in the south and Hornstorf in the west.
The districts of Gamehl, Goldebee , Kalsow and Warkstorf belong to Benz .
history
Benz was founded by the Holy Spirit Foundation in Wismar ; the other today's districts were originally manors. The seat of the former parish was in Goldebee (first mentioned in 1321). Until 1385 there was a moth of the knight Heinrich von Bülow called Grotekop on the Preensberg ; it was destroyed in a punitive action by Lübeck against Mecklenburg nobles because of these committed street robberies. The name Preensberg indicates the family of the Knights of Preen as the previous owner. This place was probably already settled in Slavic times. Preensberg as a district has been devastated since 1970 and was then cleared.
The municipality is still dominated by agriculture.
A modern nursing home was built in Kalsow .
Gamehl was the headquarters of the von Stralendorff family for over 600 years . In 1860 Franz von Stralendorff (* 1805; † 1883) had today's Gamehl manor built in neo-Gothic style.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community Goldebee was incorporated.
