Miners Route

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bergmannsroute is a 26 km long themed hiking trail between the cities of Wetzlar and Braunfels . This is an alternative route to the Lahnwanderweg which was set up in 2012 and in 2014 received the certified seal "Wanderable Germany". The Bergmannsroute leads through a region that has a long mining history. With the closure of the Fortuna mine in Solms on March 4, 1983, the more than 2000-year history of iron ore mining in the Lahn-Dill area ended . The traces of this long mining tradition still shape the landscape today and numerous relics of the former mines can be discovered on the miners route. The miner's route begins in Wetzlar and initially runs along the Lahn to the Altenberg monastery and on to the Fortuna pit. From the town of Leun, the themed hiking trail crosses the Lahn valley and ends in Braunfels. The miner's route is a geo-route in the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus National Geopark .
