The Nordend colony was established between 1871 and 1874 north of Niederschönhausen on land that the Terraingesellschaft Berliner Nordend-Actien-Gesellschaft had acquired. The share certificate from 1872 shows the purchase price of 100  Taler (300  Reichsmarks ). Previously this was a preferred maneuvering area on the Rosenthaler Feldmark of the rural community of Rosenthal in the Niederbarnim district . In 1875, about 100 residents were registered in Northrend, in 1900 there were already 800. It was therefore urgent housing needs, so bought farmers, traders and service providers building land and the cottage colony Northrend emerged almost simultaneously with the Colonie Wilhelmsruh before 1900 nurseries settled on, a small village center developed around Kronprinzenplatz , where a school was also built, the building of which has been preserved. The farms on Kastanienallee, built around 1898, had front gardens facing the street (called “front gardens”), on the side facing away from the street there were barns, fields and shed houses .

With the formation of Greater Berlin in 1920, the suburb of Berlin-Rosenthal came together with the Colonie Nordend to the administrative district of Pankow and was politically part of Niederschönhausen until the 1940s. Further residential buildings were also built in Nordend in the 1930s. A whole line of Expressionist villas was built according to plans by the architect Heinrich Möller , which is now a listed building. After the Second World War , Nordend was assigned to the district of Rosenthal as a location.
