The Berliner Fenster is a passenger television operated by Berliner Fenster GmbH in Berlin's subways . Axel Springer SE news as well as event notices and advertising are shown on a double monitor system . The second monitor is supposed to replace the sound.

The idea for the system came up in 1997 and was implemented in 2000.

The program

The 15-minute broadcasting loop is updated several times a day and consists of about a third each of news, advertising and self-produced magazine. The broadcasting loop of the Berlin window contains world and regional news, sport, culture, weather, event information, excursion tips, music and cinema tips, advertising and passenger information. The news channel Welt and the Berlin daily BZ provide the latest news , while sports news is provided by the sports magazine Kicker , which appears twice a week .

There are also different actions. In addition to the book or CD tip of the week, passengers have the opportunity to send in a “photo of the day”. As part of the Going Underground film festival, self-made short films will also be shown in the Berlin window.

A new layout of the Berlin window has been in use since February 25, 2019. On the left screen, a BVG passenger information system shows the following stations and the terminus of the current line. Live departure times of the nearest train station are also shown. The usual program of the Berlin window continues to run on the right screen.

technology

In order to enable the permanent transmission of large amounts of data to the mobile receivers of the vehicles, the " Digital Multimedia Broadcasting " system is used.

The data is transmitted to the subway stations via fiber optic cables. There they are converted into digital radio signals and received in the individual trains. You can then access the screens via the server.
