Bernd Hecker

Bernd Hecker (* 1963 in Schaffhausen , Switzerland ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

Life

Hecker studied law at the University of Konstanz from 1982 . He finished his studies there in 1988 with the first state examination in law. He then worked as a research assistant at Rudolf Rengier 's chair in Constance . There Hecker received his doctorate in 1991 with a thesis on environmental criminal law. iur. He then worked in various positions in the judicial service of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Among other things, he worked as a civil and criminal judge, judge at the juvenile lay judge and as a ministerial advisor for criminal legislation in Schwerin. In 1994 he was appointed judge at the district court for life, but in 1996 he was seconded to the University of Konstanz. Hecker completed his habilitation there in 2000 under the further supervision of Rengier and received the Venia legendi for the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedure law and European criminal law.

After working in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , he was represented at the universities of Konstanz and Gießen . From January 2003 he was a professor at a criminal law chair in Giessen, and in 2010 he switched to a chair at the University of Trier . Since the summer semester 2017, Hecker has held the full professorship for German and European criminal law, criminal procedural law, and environmental and commercial criminal law at the University of Tübingen .

Hecker's main research areas are European criminal law, environmental, economic and consumer protection criminal law. Hecker also gained notoriety through his comments on, among other things, the environmental offenses in the StGB commentary by Schönke / Schröder .
