Bernd von Heintschel-Heinegg

Bernd von Heintschel-Heinegg (born June 24, 1945 in Reichenberg , Czech Republic ) is a German lawyer and honorary professor at the University of Regensburg .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1965 at the Urspring School in Schelklingen , von Heintschel-Heinegg did his military service until 1967. He then studied law at the universities of Munich and Regensburg until 1970 . He then held various positions at Hans Joachim Hirsch's chair for criminal law and criminal procedure law. He passed his second state examination in 1974.

In 1975 von Heintschel-Heinegg switched to the Bavarian judiciary, first as a public prosecutor, then as a judge at the Straubing District Court . In the same year he did his doctorate with Hans Joachim Hirsch. In 1993 he was appointed judge at the Nuremberg Higher Regional Court , and in 2000 he was appointed judge at the Bavarian Supreme Regional Court in Munich. Three years earlier, von Heintschel-Heinegg had been appointed honorary professor for criminal law and criminal procedure law at the University of Regensburg. After the abolition of the Bavarian Supreme Court until he was 65, von Heintschel-Heinegg was presiding judge at the Munich Higher Regional Court . He was admitted to the bar in Straubing in 2010 .

Von Heintschel-Heinegg is a member of the German Association of Criminal Law Teachers, the Scientific Association for Family Law and the board of the Bavarian State Association for Prisoner Welfare and Probation Services.

In 2012, von Heintschel-Heinegg was appointed special investigator of the first investigative committee of the Bundestag into the right-wing extremist terror group National Socialist Underground (NSU), who sifted through files in authorities, selected them and forwarded them to the committee. Von Heintschel-Heinegg continued this work for the NSU committees of inquiry of the state parliaments of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia as well as for the second NSU committee of the Bundestag .
