Bernhard Kiekenap

Bernhard Kiekenap (born November 19, 1930 in Schapen ) is a historian who researches the history of the city of Braunschweig and the state of Braunschweig in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Life

Kiekenap attended the Raabeschule grammar school in Braunschweig , where he graduated from high school in 1949 . He then worked as a freelancer for the Braunschweiger Zeitung and as a construction worker clearing the rubble in the heavily destroyed city. In November 1949, Kiekenap began studying civil engineering at the Braunschweig Technical University . In 1953 he successfully completed his studies and subsequently worked in the construction industry. From 1961 he was managing director of a large construction company in Hanover . In 1968 he did his doctorate at the University of Hanover , was appointed honorary professor at the university and was given a teaching position in process engineering . Kiekenap is Honorary President of the Lower Saxony-Bremen Construction Industry Association.

After his retirement in 1994, the autodidact intensified his research into more recent Braunschweig history and published several works on topics from the 19th and 20th centuries. In the same year Kiekenap was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Braunschweig.

Bernhard Kiekenap has been married since 1953, has three children and still lives in Schapen today.
