The professional association of paediatricians e. V. , BVKJ for short , sees itself as representing the interests of paediatricians in Germany . It is a registered association based in Cologne . It includes around 12,000 paediatricians (as of 2017) who practice in clinics , in the public health service or independently .

history

The association was founded in September 1970. It emerged from the department for professional issues of the then German Society for Pediatrics. The association is subdivided into 17 regional associations. According to information from BVKJ President Wolfram Hartmann, in 2014 the organization focused on the environmental impact on children's health. The brochure “Healthy Environment - A Basic Right for Children and Young People” was published on this issue.
