Berzine is a late altpaläolithischer find site in western Syria on Nahr el-Kebir, which is however poorly received. The site of the Middle Acheuléen , which was initially dated to an age of 300,000 to 400,000 years and corresponds to about 700,000 to 400,000 years ago, is located 60 to 90 m above the Nahr el-Kebir on a river terrace. In the meantime, attempts have been made to break away from European research when it comes to technical terms, and to designate the epoch as Leventine old or early acheuléen.

The lithic artifacts, i.e. the devices made of stones and their preliminary stages and waste, show signs of working methods typical of the Middle Acheuléen, such as working with the soft hammer. In contrast to the hinterland, where lanceolate and three-sided devices dominated, oval and almond-shaped shapes were found on the edge near the coast. This could represent early evidence of cultural small scale.
