Life

Beverly Bayne's family moved to Chicago when their daughter was six years old. At sixteen, out of curiosity, she introduced herself to Essanay , where she was certified as having a camera face and immediately hired her. She started with a weekly wage of $ 35 that quickly rose to $ 75. Bayne had become popular in just a few years, earning $ 350 a week.

Her first films were The Rivals and The Loan Shark (both 1912). In her second film, she already played a leading role. Essanay 's greatest male star, Francis X. Bushman, got Bayne to become his permanent film partner . The first of their twenty-four films together for the company was Pennington's Choice (1915). In 1916, Bayne and Bushman left Essanay and worked for Metro until 1918 . In total, Beverly Bayne and Francis X. Bushman have made seventy films together.

The romantic screen couple, who played the title roles in a very successful Romeo and Juliet film in 1917 , also became lovers in real life. They secretly married in 1918, just three weeks after Bushman's divorce from his ex-wife. After the scandalous circumstances of their wedding became known, the film offers for the couple became rare; in the six years from 1919 to 1925 Beverly Bayne could only make nine films.

Bayne and Bushman divorced in 1925; Beverly Bayne's last silent film was Passionate Youth (1925). She then worked as a stage actress and appeared on Broadway in the 1930s and 1940s . 1948 Bayne was after a screen break of 23 years in a tiny supporting role in Jules Dassin's The Naked City ( The Naked City to see). It was her only appearance in a sound film and at the same time her last appearance on the screen after more than 150 well-known films. The former star was not mentioned by name in the film's credits .

In 1950, Beverly Bayne resigned from acting entirely. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame commemorates her.
