The Margareten District Museum is a museum in the 5th Viennese district of Margareten .

history

The district museum Margareten was founded as the youngest Viennese district museum in 1975 by district chairman Johann Walter and is housed in the office building (Schönbrunner Strasse 54). The museum specializes in the history of the district and its residents - in words and pictures.

The director of the museum is currently (2008) Mag. Heinrich Spitznagl.

Collections

The Margareten District Museum has documentation from the past to the present, which is also based on narrated history. In particular, a large archive of old photographs and the documentation of Margareten's architecture are among the main focuses of this museum.

The museum also deals with the lives of personalities who were connected with Margareten and who have often become known far beyond Austria's borders. (see: Margaretens Personalities )
