Birgitt Austermühl

Birgitt Austermühl (born October 8, 1965 in Kassel ) is a former German national soccer player.

Career

Birgitt Austermühl started playing soccer at VfB Kassel. Then she played for FSC Lohfelden , FSV Frankfurt and again for FSC Lohfelden until she moved to the then second division TSV Battenberg in 1991 , with whom she rose to the 1st Bundesliga South in 1992. She played first class at TSV Battenberg until 1993. Then she moved to TSV Jahn Calden and in 1994 back to the 1st Bundesliga South for FSV Frankfurt. In 1995, the player used as a center and full-back won the German championship with FSV Frankfurt; in the final, Grün-Weiß Brauweiler was defeated 2-0. In the same year she also won the DFB Cup . In the 3-1 win in the final against TSV Siegen , she scored the third goal in Frankfurt. She repeated the cup victory with her team in the following year. She won the women's national cup with the Hessen selection in 1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995. In 2005 she ended her career with the regional league team of TSV Jahn Calden.

Austermühl made his debut in the national team shortly after the German national team became European champions in 1991. She played her first game against Hungary on September 25th . She made the last of her 65 international games in 1996 as part of the Summer Olympics against Brazil . She scored two goals in international matches. She took part in the first world championship in 1991 and was fourth, in 1993 she was fourth, and in 1995 she was European champion, runner-up world champion, German champion, German cup winner and indoor champion winner.

She was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for winning the European Women's Football Championship and the Vice World Championship in Women's Football, both in 1995.
