The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cape Palmas ( Latin Dioecesis capitis palmensis , English Diocese of Cape Palmas ) is an in Liberia situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Cape Palmas . It includes the counties of Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, and Sinoe.

history

Pope Pius XII founded the Apostolic Prefecture Cape Palmas with the Apostolic Constitution Ut fidei propagandae on February 2, 1950 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Liberia , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese.

With the Apostolic Constitution Cum sit Ecclesia she was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate on May 7, 1962 . The elevation to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Monrovia as a suffragan diocese, took place on December 19, 1981 with the Apostolic Constitution Patet Ecclesiae .

The diocese of Cape Palmas has repeatedly been directly involved in the effects of the military coup, dictatorship and civil war.
