The Bistum Caroline Islands ( lat. : Dioecesis Carolinensium ) is an in FSM preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Chuuk .

history

The Diocese of Karolinen was established on December 19, 1905 by Pope Pius X. from areas of the dissolved Mission sui juris East-Karolinen and the dissolved Mission sui juris West-Karolinen as the Apostolic Prefecture Karolinen , both of which on May 15, 1886 from the Apostolic Vicariate Micronesia were founded out. On March 1, 1911, the Apostolic Prefecture Karolinen was raised by Pius X to the Apostolic Vicariate . In addition, the territory of the dissolved Apostolic Prefecture Mariana Islands was attached to the Apostolic Vicariate . On May 4, 1923 the territory of the dissolved Apostolic Prefecture of the Marshall Islands was annexed to the Vicariate Apostolic Mariana Islands and Carolines. The Apostolic Vicariate of Mariana Islands, Carolines and Marshall Islands gave the territory of the Mariana Islands to the Apostolic Vicariate of Guam on July 4, 1946 and was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Carolines and Marshall Islands .

On May 3, 1979, the Apostolic Vicariate Carolines and Marshall Islands was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Tametsi Ecclesiae and renamed the Diocese of Carolines-Marshall Islands . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Agaña as a suffragan . On April 23, 1993, John Paul II divided the Bishopric of the Carolines-Marshall Islands with the Apostolic Constitution Quo expeditius into the Bishopric of Carolines and the Apostolic Prefecture of the Marshall Islands .
