The Roman Catholic Diocese of Niigata ( lat. : Dioecesis Niigataënsis , Jap. カトリック新潟教区 , katorikku Niigata Kyoku ) is in Japan situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Niigata .

history

Pope Pius X. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Niigata on August 13, 1912 from cession of territory by the Diocese of Hakodate .

On February 18, 1922, it lost part of its territory for the establishment of the Nagoya Apostolic Prefecture . With the Apostolic Constitution Sicut provido it was elevated to the diocese on April 16, 1962.
