The diocese of Viterbo ( lat. : Dioecesis Viterbiensis , ital. : Diocese of Viterbo ) is one in Italy located Roman Catholic diocese based in Viterbo .

history

The diocese of Viterbo was established in the 6th century and placed directly under the Holy See . In the 12th century, the Diocese of Tuscanella was attached to the Diocese of Viterbo . The diocese of Viterbo and Tuscania was on May 2, 1936 by Pope Pius XI. affiliated with the Apostolic Constitution Ad maius christiani, the territorial abbey of San Martino al Monte Cimino .

On March 27, 1986, Pope John Paul II annexed the dioceses of Acquapendente , Bagnoregio and Montefiascone to the diocese of Viterbo and Tuscania with the Apostolic Constitution Qui non sine . The diocese of Viterbo, Acquapendente, Bagnoregio, Montefiascone, Tuscania and San Martino al Monte Cimino was renamed the Diocese of Viterbo on February 16, 1991 .
