Blackfly is a 1991 Canadian animated short film directed by Christopher Hinton .
action
In springtime, a man decides to help build a bridge over a river in Northern Ontario . The area's black flies , however, are driving him to the brink of madness - they're everywhere, be it underwater or in eggs. Even the escape into space is in vain. When the work is done, the man vows never to go to Northern Ontario again.
production
Blackfly was animated to the Canadian folk song The Black Fly Song (refrain: "And the black flies, the little black flies / Always the black fly no matter where you go ..."). Wade Hemsworth wrote the title in 1949 after working in the woods of Northern Ontario. He also sings the title in the film. The backing vocals are from the McGarrigle Sisters, Anna and Kate McGarrigle.
Awards
Blackfly was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " in 1992 , but could not prevail against manipulation . At the Genie Awards , Blackfly was nominated for a Genie in the " Best Animated Short Film " category.
