The Blue Coalition ( Bulgarian Синята коалиция Sinjata koalicija ) is a political coalition in Bulgaria , which was formed for the European elections on June 7, 2009 and for the Bulgarian parliamentary elections on July 5, 2009.

The blue coalition comprises the parties Union of Democratic Forces (UDK), Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB), Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union - People's Union (BZNS), Bulgarian Social Democratic Party (BSDP) and the Radical Democratic Party (RDP). The coalition's election motto is: It's time! (bulg. Време е! / Wreme e!). The coalition is seen as an attempt to unite the conservative parties. One of the principles is not to include employees of the former communist secret service (Darschavna Sigurnost) in the candidate lists.

history

In the European elections , the Blue Coalition won 7.99 percent of the vote and thus provided two MEPs (after the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty , until then one). The top candidate Nadezhda Nejnski and Swetoslaw Malinow will represent the Blue Coalition in the European Parliament.

After the European elections, on June 12, 2009, the Bulgarian New Democracy party joined the Blue Coalition and on June 19, the Shtit party . Talks for membership in the coalition for the Bulgarian parliamentary elections were also held with the Green Party , the United People's Party (ENP for short) and VMRO-BND . The VMRO-BND and the ENP, however, refused to agree to the principle of not setting up employees of the former communist secret service, whereupon the talks failed. At the same time attempts were made to win the GERB party for a common list for the elections, but this failed.

At the end of June 2009, the Gergjowden party and some members of the Democratic Party called on their supporters to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections for the Blue Coalition.

On January 11, 2012, at the suggestion of the chairman of the Blue Coalition, Ivan Kostov , the Bulgarian parliament unanimously passed a declaration against the assimilation policy of the former totalitarian regime towards the Muslim minority . Thus, after almost 20 years, the Bulgarian state recognized the crimes against Turks and Muslims during the communist era.
