from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blauer Gulden ( Dutch blauwe gulden ) is a collective term for inferior gold coins from the Netherlands .

The only 12-carat gold gulden under Duke Rainald von Geldern (1401–1423) reached no more than two thirds of the fineness of the Rhenish gulden , which initially contained 23 and later still 19 carat gold . The mockery that the people of Geldrischen gold gulden therefore turned to the so-called Postulatsgoldgulden , Hoornsgulden and Knappkake (Knappkoek) , which only reached half the fineness of the Rhenish guilder.

The word blue guilder comes from the Dutch blauwe guilder , in the derogatory sense of iets blauw laten . This means translated into German: be based on something up , fool someone smokescreen or simply make blue .
