Robert David "Bob" Leslie (born January 25, 1950 in Carberry , Manitoba ) is a Canadian - British ice hockey coach and official. Among other things, he worked for top division clubs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

career

Leslie holds a teaching degree from Brandon University and the University of Winnipeg . In his native Canada he worked temporarily as a social worker.

Leslie worked in the 1989/90 season and between 1994 and 1999 as assistant coach of the Swiss first division club EV Zug . As an assistant to Sean Simpson , he won the NLA championship with the EVZ in 1998. Between 1991 and 1994 he trained the Carman Cougars in his home province of Manitoba.

Between January and April 1999, Leslie was the interim coach of the German first division club Kölner Haie and led the team to the playoff quarter-finals of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with a record of 13 wins from 21 games . In the 1999/00 season Leslie was then assistant coach and junior coordinator at the Haien and was the team's head coach for the following season 2000/01. In January 2001, Leslie was on leave after the eighth home defeat of the season.

This was followed by an engagement as head coach of the English club London Knights , before he took over the coaching position at the Austrian first division club VEU Feldkirch in January 2003 . For the 2003/04 season, Leslie was appointed head coach of the Swiss NLA club EHC Basel . In November 2003 he was dismissed in Basel: At this point the team was in the last place in the NLA table after ten games without a win .

In October 2004 he became the new head coach of the Krefeld Penguins in the German Ice Hockey League, in March 2005 he moved to the DEL competitor EHC Wolfsburg and was supposed to lead the club to keep up, which was also successful. In January 2006 he was released in Wolfsburg.

Leslie moved to another DEL club, the Hamburg Freezers , for the 2006/07 season and initially worked as an assistant coach. In January 2008 he took over the offices of sports manager and sports director at the Freezers instead. His contract ended on April 30, 2009 and was not renewed. In March 2010, Leslie joined the coaching staff of the DEL association Düsseldorfer EG as an assistant .

In February 2010 the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League A announced the commitment of Leslie as assistant coach for the following season. When head coach Colin Muller was fired in October 2010, Leslie was also forced to leave the Lions.

Since then, Leslie has taken care of his work as President and CEO of the company "Leslie Global Leadership", in which his sons Boe and Nate are involved, and which organizes ice hockey camps and oversees other projects related to the sport. Leslie is also a consultant to the Hungarian association Kanadai Magyar Hokiklub SE and works, among other things, on expanding the ice hockey structures in Hungary.

National team

Leslie was a member of the Canadian national team's coaching staff a total of nine times at various tournaments and contributed to winning the Spengler Cup three times and the Germany Cup twice .

Leslie's father was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada.
