history

Bonn citizens founded the Bonnensia association in 1886 at a meeting of the Historical Association for the Lower Rhine . Association for the Bonn Antiquities Collection with the aim of creating a collection of historical objects through acquisitions, which should lead to the establishment of a city history museum through the city of Bonn. At first, the collecting activity concentrated mainly on evidence of the electoral time in Bonn. In 1891 the association was renamed Alt-Bonn , in 1951 it was renamed the Bonner Heimat- und Geschichtsverein .

In 1936, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation, it was decided to publish a club magazine, the Bonner Geschichtsblätter , which has been published to this day . In 1956/1957 the association's collection was transferred to municipal property. This transfer led to a contractual regulation of the already close cooperation between the city and the association. Since then, the office of the association has been operated by the Bonn city archives , the history sheets are published jointly, and the editor is the city archivist. The city administration also received a seat on the association's board.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary, the association organized an exhibition in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum . Two magnificent volumes on the imperial era in Bonn have been published. With the opening of the Bonn City Museum in 1998, the original aim of the Bonnensia was finally achieved.
