history

Reza Schah Pahlavi , his son Mohammad Reza Schah Pahlavi and his wife Schahbanu Farah Pahlavi founded numerous charitable foundations for public welfare and to support science, art and culture, for example Bonyad-e Farhang-e Iran .

After the Islamic Revolution of 1979 these foundations were either dissolved or transferred to new foundations. Further foundations were created through the confiscation of financial assets and real estate belonging to the former upper class.
