history

The newspaper was founded in 1858 by the brothers Dominik and Melchior Triner as a weekly newspaper for Urschweiz . About six months later it was published twice a week as Der Bote aus der Urschweiz , and since 1863 it has been called the Bote der Urschweiz . The newspaper saw itself initially as an entertainment and advertising paper, later as the actual forum newspaper. The political orientation was liberal for a long time, but there were no financial ties between the party and the newspaper. In 1876 the messenger received competition from the conservative Schwyzer Zeitung .

Between 1979 and 1994 the messenger appeared three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and has been a daily newspaper ever since . From 1997 to 2013 there was a partnership with the Südostschweiz Mediengruppe , while the publishing house and editorial team remained independent.

The messenger has been part of the Luzerner Zeitung newspaper network since January 2014 , although the respective operational independence is not restricted. The Neue Schwyzer Zeitung , a regional edition of the Neue Luzerner Zeitung , was discontinued at the end of 2013 and instead entered into a cooperation with the messenger , whereby both newspapers offer each other all current newspaper content for publication. Since then, the messenger has in particular taken on the supraregional editorial section with the departments abroad, inland, economy, sport and culture as well as the national advertisements from the Neue Luzerner Zeitung . This content was previously provided by the Südostschweiz Mediengruppe.
