The Bourda Cricket Ground is the second largest sports facility in Guyana and is located in the capital, Georgetown, in the Bourda district. It lies below sea level and is therefore surrounded by a moat.

Cricket

"Bourda" is a cricket stadium. The Guyanese national cricket team and the West Indies cricket team sometimes play home games here. It is the home of the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC). The first encounter was between the Georgetown Cricket Club and the Trinidad team.

"Bourda" is the only South American test cricket stadium . From September 21 to 26, 1930 England and the West Indies met for the first test match . In the last of the 30 test matches to date, the West Indies faced South Africa from March 31 to April 4, 2005 .

The first of the ten one-day international matches to date took place on March 30, 1988. The West Indies played against Pakistan . The so far last ODI match between the West Indies and Zimbabwe took place on May 7, 2006.

In 1979 the pavilion was looted during a World Series match . The players took shelter in their cubicles.

With the opening of the Providence Stadium , the "Bourda" lost its importance. However, the government wants first-class cricket to continue to take place here.
