The Boy Edgar Prize or BUMA Boy Edgar Prijs is a Dutch jazz prize .

The prize has been awarded every year since 1980 to a Dutch musician in the field of jazz or improvised music (including jazz composers or band leaders ). The winner must have made a significant contribution to the Dutch jazz scene. A sculpture designed by the artist Jan Wolkers and prize money that is currently endowed with 12,500 euros will be awarded . The prize is the successor to Wessel Ilcken Prijs , which has been awarded since 1963 and which was renamed the Boy Edgar Prize after Boy Edgar's death in 1980 . It is considered the most prestigious jazz prize in the Netherlands and is awarded by the Muziek Centrum Nederland with funds from the Dutch collecting society BUMA / STEMRA (since 2013, previously by Radio VPRO ).

Even today, a Wessel-Ilcken Prize for the best young jazz musician is awarded (after a competition at the Loosdrecht jazz festival ).
