Boy is the debut album by Irish rock band U2 and was released in 1980. It's about growing up, which is also a common thread in the lyrics.

History of origin

The album was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin , produced by Steve Lillywhite . Some of the songs, such as An Cat Dubh / Into the Heart and The Ocean , were first written / produced in the studio, while others U2 played at concerts before the studio recordings ( Out of Control , Stories for Boys , Twilight ). All songs were recorded by The Edge with his Gibson Explorer and Fender Stratocaster .

Cover

The boy on the cover is Peter Rowan, brother of Bono's friend Guggi. He can also be seen on the cover of Three (1979), War (1983), The Best Of 1980–1990 (1998) and Early Demos (2004). The cover layout was designed by Steve Averill , who is also responsible for the covers of almost all subsequent U2 albums.

In North America , the cover image had to be changed to avoid allegations of child pornography and the associated damage to the band's image. In Canada and the USA , the cover shows the four heads of the band members.
