Heinz-Olof Brennscheidt (* 1934 in Wuppertal ; † June 5, 2020 ) was an entrepreneur and founder of the non-profit Heinz-Olof Brennscheidt Foundation.

life and work

At the age of 23, Heinz-Olof Brennscheidt joined his father's company Wicke GmbH & Co. KG , which was founded in Wuppertal in 1866 , where he then worked for more than 40 years, mainly as managing director. With its operations in the Czech Republic and China and domestic and foreign sales companies, the company is one of the leading manufacturers of wheels and castors for transport equipment . The company moved its headquarters to Sprockhövel in the 1960s . Even before he retired from active business life, Heinz-Olof Brennscheidt had made the decision to allow part of his assets to flow into a foundation.

Brennscheidt Foundation

In 1993 the Brennscheidt Foundation was established to promote children's homes . Since then, the income from this foundation has been used to finance various activities in Wuppertal children's homes that would not have been possible without this commitment. Heinz-Olof Brennscheidt appeared in 1999 with his foundation of the large sculpture Rondo by the artist Alf Lechner as a cultural sponsor, which adorns the forecourt on the sculpture mile between the Von der Heydt Museum and the Wuppertal town hall ( Johannisberg sculpture park ). The high point of his cultural commitment is the Brennscheidt Foundation, founded in 2003 for the promotion of art and culture , a gift for the 100th anniversary of the Wuppertal Von der Heydt Museum.

“The foundation offers the museum a high degree of planning security - regardless of the city's budget - and thanks to the additional funds it makes it possible to offer a particularly attractive program of temporary exhibitions. It is very important to Heinz-Olof Brennscheidt to actively participate in the distribution of the funds. He manages the foundations himself in order to keep the administrative effort as low as possible and thus to ensure optimal use of the foundation's funds. In the meantime, the commitment as a sponsor for Brennscheidt has become an important part of life, from which many young people as well as the city of Wuppertal as a cultural location benefit. "
